Chime

for the living

a stony realization

that although I feel

squeezed in

by the tall buildings

and although the city laughs

tonight outside my 9th floor

window

the street lights did not

turn on in my heart

and I panicked

and felt singularly

alone

unable to embrace

the friendly

chime

forgetting that

there are times

when we need to be

our own best company.
